Remember to do the HALT Acronym means ask yourself am I Hungry Angry Lonely or Tired and go to a meeting
I have been sober for almost 5 years. I too suffer from extreme anxiety, caused from PTSD. I see a psychiatrist, and have been on anti anxiety meds for 2 years now. They are a huge help! Hang in there lady. Remember how far you’ve come, and use that as your strength to take care of yourself and mental health. It’s so important!
You are absolutely worth it, Megan. Others might have told you otherwise, but that's not up to them to decide. Or your negative self-talk might be taking over, but the narrative is only yours to write. I can't recommend enough working with a therapist to find that part of yourself that is hurting and needs that numbing. It might sound cliche, but it often comes from childhood trauma, both from events that happened, or didn't happen but should have - childhood neglect is very much my upbringing. I learned from a very early age that my emotions weren't important to address, that they weren't valid, and I have spent the rest of my life looking to keep invalidating them. But we should honor our feelings, our wants and needs, we should listen to ourselves, the parts that hurt when we engage in those moments of self-destruction because we have normalized the pain. Talk to your inner child and console her like you would to any other child you see hurting, and, just as important, listen to her. Tell her she's worth it.
I feel the same way.
I had to relearn how to go places sober, basically do everything sober after rehab. Anxiety will be there. It was a rollercoaster ride the 1st 6 mo then q year was a little easier and at 18 months more stable. Your disease is telling you to drink. Don't do it !
sounds like me if I dont have some sort of daily reprieve. have you ever been to an AA meeting? we are not a glum lot! we AAs know that what you are going thru is completely normal! but we have found a solution! the 12 steps and a power greater than outselves HAVE restored us to sanity, without the need for any medications. our program and the meetings and the fellows in the rooms are our medication and it works!
Healing takes time. Don’t leave 10 minutes before the miracle happens
