An aa womens meeting saved my life! I have never felt more at home. I look forward to meetings now and these women are helping me grow through life. Highly recommend!
The rooms helped saved my life please go!
Congratulations on 14 days!Just go and listen. You don’t need to participate. Women’s meeting is a good idea, but any meeting is better than no meeting. You will be welcomed.
Yep! Just go and listen. You don’t have to participate. Women’s meeting would be best. Keep an open mind. It’s not a cult. No one is going to make you do anything you don’t want to do. Meetings have different “personalities,” so do your best to go to a few different ones and see what feels right. Good luck!
Congratulations on your two weeks and going to any meeting will help you grow with sober life
Do yourself a favor and expect nothing specific, ask yourself for an open mind before you walk in, and announce that it’s your first time for yourself when they ask. You will not regret it.
No need to be nervous at AA meetings. They just go around the circle and everyone gets to say pretty much whatever they want. No judgement whatsoever.
I’m also concerned about going to one. I’m almost a week sober
Maybe go to aa meeting what have both options- zoom and live and choose zoom at first? This way will allow you to know people on that meeting, introduce yourself and later on you will feel more comfortable to attend the same meeting but already in person
That’s what I’m worried about as someone that’s not particularly religious
I’m in florida unfortunately
but I’ll definitely look into women’s meetings. I appreciate it! I might add you if that’s alright!
What helped me get through my first few meetings was knowing I could sit in the back, keep to myself, and just listen. The only thing you have to say is your name that’s it nothing more is mandatory. As you keep going you will become more comfortable
A family of people that will make you feel at home. You won’t feel alone anymore and we will surround you with love and teach you a better way to live. I think the most important thing is to just keep going, I haven’t had a drink in over five years and I still look forward to attending meetings. I feel at home in a meeting, not judged not lost, and not alone anymore. I just have to go.
They’ll be excited to have you and accept your entry w/ open arms. Yes, perhaps start w/ an all woman’s group. Let them know you are a first timer, congrats on the 2 weeks. Just there to listen/build recovery tools, get a sponsor (when ready.) Enjoy the new fellowship, nothing at all to be nervous about. Best of luck to you!
Yes, if you go to a meeting for the first time, I suggest that you raise your hand and mention that you're new. You should get a meeting list with phone numbers of others who are recovering. Use the numbers!
Most AA, NA, and other 12 Step meetings are organized and structured in such a way as to feel calm and welcoming. Oftentimes the group leader or secretary will ask if there are anybody who are new. If you are, then please let the meeting know. One can always mention this too. It's NOT to embarrass anyone ; it's so they can get to know you. Also, you are under NO obligation.
Love the positivity on loosid!!
Excellent post!
What have you got to lose aka what are your concerns?
Just keep going to different ones I went to prob 10 different places till I found one I liked I was nervous to but after I started going was the best thing ever I suggest just go and if you don’t like it didn’t feel comfortable find different one don’t give up
