I have a checklist I go through when I get those obsessions to drink. It works every time guaranteed.
Hit my knees in prayer
Get busy doing something like laundry
Pick up the 100lb phone and Talk to someone in recovery about it
Go to AA meeting or celebrate recovery
If all else fails go help out another alcoholic or even help someone less fortunate out to get out of self.
Never have I left helping others out still wanting to drink.
Telling myself, âThis too shall passâ, helped me. It said to me that how I was feeling wasnât going to be permanent. Also, âIf youâre going through h@ll, keep goingâ, helped too. You can do it. Play the tape!
When I have an urge to drink I immediately stop and pray!! I ask my higher power to take away the compulsion, impulse and taste. If itâs a really intense Urge Iâll hop on a zoom AA meeting and share I have a burning desire. Immediately the urge goes away when showered with love from both my fellows and my higher power
After three days Iâm sure your body is still detoxing. My body was still detoxing after three weeks. I feel my nerves have finally balanced out after a little over a monthâs timeframe but itâs better to thug out the withdrawal symptoms and then you NEVER have to go through them again. Itâs harder to get sober than it is to stay sober! (So they tell me lol my feelings are still raw)
I find that not many things help me when I have the itch or anxiety. But cleaning helps me a lot
Keeping busy. Breathe and know that this too shall pass. I know the feeling have you talked to your Dr about some meds? Itâs all a learning experience. Best wishes..Stay focused go to
Hi, KerryâŚwhat folks have mentioned alreadyâŚkeep busy, find a hobby if you do not have one.
I was online a lot, especially at the beginning-researching cravings and how to manage them.
I also started to read writing by Annie Grace.
I have her books, This Naked Mind and The Alcohol Experiment.
I also love Laura McKowenâs writing and resources. Too many other resources to list ( as my phoneâs battery is about to fade ).
I took it second by second and reminded myself that the anxiety I felt at 3 in the morning post drinking bottle after bottle felt like h-ll on earth to me.
And that I was so sick of that awful anxiety which is a zillion times worse than anxiety while being sober.
Also, breathing exercises, meditation, checking out The Tapping Solution, journaling, getting back into writing, paintingâŚall have helped.
Conduct searches on this area that you are seeking suggestions for.
The tools and resources are endless.
Meetings, I go to here and there. Other tools have helped me more. While that is just my experience.
Oh!
And being in Nature and exercise, for sure!
Wishing you well. How are you doing right now, Kerry?
If you are in a recovery program, I suggest going to as many meetings as you can and calling people who are in recovery and understand what your going through. Also maybe go out
And take a walk or meditate
Definitely doing healthy activities, that will keep your mind in a positive stance.
Find a hobby, when you feeling that way take a moment breath and ask your HP to lift the urge of wanting to drink. Remember it just a thought. This to shall pass. One day at a time. It gets easier. I promiseâŚBest wishes
Use smart recovery find activity u want to learn stay in moment
Get to a meeting! Or two! Or three! Make connection and share what you are going through. You will be met with open arms.
