I would say that if you want to try AA then try it. It’s not for everyone nor does it claim to be. Whatever works for you to improve your life and the life of those around you is always good. As mentioned here, there’s are lots of options available.
A.A. provides a great fellowship and a thorough examination of yourself through step work. I honestly believe it’s good for ANYONE if you’re willing to put in the work. Best of wishes!
Have you tried meditation before bed? I'm a bad sleeper myself and meditation seems to help get my over active mind settled at night. I also had to change my expectations on sleep when I decided to sober up. I'm actually sleeping now and not passing out anymore. Keep exercising and eating healthy and the sleep will come when your system needs it. Not everyone gets/needs the 7 hours or whatever the "experts" say. Once I embraced this it took the pressure off and I sleep a bit better and don't beat myself up about it anymore. I'd rather be sleepy than hungover or medicated. Keep working on your goals you'll get there.
Definitely doing the steps helped relieve my repetitive negative thoughts. As a result I sleep better. I did the steps many times over the 14 years of sobriety.
I relapsed multiple times prior by not giving 300%.
I rarely go to meetings anymore but I always have a sponsee and stay in the steps. Best of luck.
Check out huberman podcasts on mastering sleep.. getting sunlight when the sun rises directly below your eyes. Photons set sarcadian clock and your body will start realized melatonin at night... don't drink caffeine after one.. weight training in the am helps also. Practice yoga nidra at night. Lastly reduce aritificial light after 8 or 9 pm. Only use candles.. lastly don't look at phone just before bed.
AA is NOT the meetings. AA is the steps. If you haven’t worked the steps you haven’t tried AA.
If you find something good about AA, then great. For me, I’ve been to amazing AA groups and I’ve been to groups that are a mess. Just don’t let a meeting get you down, you can find a good meeting. If it’s not for you, then do what you gotta do to stay sober.
I got halfway through step one. I had an issue with it
