Does the craving ever go away? Almost a year clean

Mine have gotten weak over time.

Are you working a program? AA or NA or something else? Are you helping others? Do you have a higher power of your understanding?
I find that once I completely gave into all those questions the cravings disappeared completely well for the majority of the time. I’ll get a few short moments of wanting tobacco or meth but for some reason I don’t want to drink ever again. Sugar cravings are the most intense cravings. Today I’m sober and grateful.

6 mos once, 23 days now. I fought to the death with cigarettes for 45 yrs, suggest this - when nothing else works, hate!
Hate the substance, hate yourself… no I shouldn’t recommend that really, sorry

Set a goal you’ve never had. Seriously. Set a rigid goal to do something you have never ever in your life attempted.
Lose twenty pounds.
Ten meetings in ten days.
Ninety meetings in ninety days.
Read three NOVELS.
ETC.
Then APPLY YOURSELF DILIGENTLY TO THAT GOAL!!!
Make it your OBSESSION!!!
Your DESIRE!!!ļæ¼
Your ONLY THOUGHT!!!
You wanna drink?
You wanna use?
IMMEDIATELY open your novel.
Or drop and do push-ups.
Strive to complete your goal.
Tell yourself you can consider drinking or using but only AFTER your goal is complete.
And then do it.
Now. Set a goal. Right fucking now!!!
As you read this.
Three novels?
Lose twenty pounds?
Do NOT overthink it.
Set one.
Now.
RIGHT NOW!!!
And now?
Begin.
Think of nothing but that goal until it is complete.
You wanna drink or use?
Maybe you will. But you CAN NOT EVEN CONSIDER IT UNTIL THAT GOAL IS ACCOMPLISHED!!!
Now set that goal.
And now begin.
And do it NOW.
RIGHT NOW!!!

Well said Kevin.
When I surrendered and did everything they told me..
Any desire to drink or use left me.
This blows me away still!
And it's been this way for 28 years...

Lol yeah I had to completely hate smoking to quit completely

Yes, it does go away but it also pops back up from time to time. In the past, I had three years of sobriety and it significantly weakened for the majority of that time. Specific situations made me miss it a little. Typically that was dinner in a restaurant; my DOC is wine.

Thank you Jack.
Congrats on 28 years my friend. Exactly, it’s a miracle. I’m in shock as well as I’ve tried to get sober on my own… didn’t get me far…

Thank you Kevin :slightly_smiling_face:

To me ot is like the fact you can always see your nose. Your mind blocks it out, but it's still there.
