Your body is going thru withdrawals. When you quit drinking, your body has to get its energy from regular sugars instead of from alcohol sugars. This impacts your mood and your outlook. Give it a few days and it this transformation will pass, and you will feel more normal.

Hi, Katie.
Yes.
Great suggestions and it has already been mentioned…while you are where you should be.

January will mark two years for me and I struggle with emotional regulation, daily.

We have got to remember to be kind and gentle with ourselves.
Plus.
As women, physically - as we age-( and in general )-there are a host of changes that we go through that these men have no clue about…which we have to deal with.
It s-cks.
Congratulations on reaching seven months, Katie.
This is huge and I hope that you are so proud of yourself!

I appreciate these suggestions, P.J.H. …
I have started writing in my notebook more ( just did … Morning Pages / as suggested by Julia Cameron-she wrote The Artist’s Way )…
Katie, those might help as well.
?
I love the pause and reflect notebook idea / practice.
Adding this to my toolbox.
This community rocks!
Thanks!

Another resource which may help?
Emotional Freedom Technique…tapping.

The Tapping Solution is an app which I need to utilize more.

Has helped me in the past with anxiety and coming back to the present moment.

It took me over a year to readjust to my sober state of mind. In the beginning it is so strange feeling all the emotions that we had been suppressing with alcohol. But over time we do acclimate to the feelings. The emotions. The highs and lows even out some and we grow more comfortable and confident in our recovery. As the fears of relapse become less acute, we allow ourselves to grow into the emotional sobriety. The spirituality. We learn that a full range of emotions is normal and healthy.

Matt said meditation, I agree. Yoga also has been tremendously helpful for my own mental health. And I am a guy so yoga is a bit odd. Exercise in general is going to help your chemistry balance. Getting outside. Breathing exercises, etc. All small and simple things that I promise as you begin to apply them will make a significant difference. The real challenge is starting a routine like this and never stopping.
