Getting that itch

I don't know what kind of therapy that you went through but I know myself and I know that no amount of therapy could teach me how to drink safely.

I drank for the same reason everyone else drank. I like the feeling that comes at once when you take a few drinks.

All it takes is one drink and the phenomenon of craving sets in. Like it says in the AA Big Book Doctor's Opinion, I pass through the well known stages of a spree emerging remorseful with a firm resolution to never drink again. But by the end of the day I'm at it again. This is repeated over and over and unless this person can experience an entire psychic change there is very little hope of his or her recovery.

I have acquired that psychic change through the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. My life is so much better these days and I have too much to lose. No way would I take a chance of blowing it all away with such a foolish event.

Every time I relapsed it was the same thing over and over again. I've proven it to myself many times that I can never safely pick up a drink.

I have a great life with lots of freedom. I just can't drink alcohol!

Thank you
A lot of people consequently try to do it all alone.
