Smart is decent
Hello: I've heard a good rule of thumb. "Make 6 meetings of any particular fellowship/program before making a decision."
Personally, I think it's a good idea.
I wanted to so bad, but had trouble figuring it out. The website wasnāt intuitive to use, and I literally couldnāt figure out where to start - probably says more about me than the website though
14 months sober now, but Iām still curious about the elusive SMART recovery!!
Statistically AA and NA have much better success rates, so in my opinion choosing it is not so smart. Mostly what I encountered in Smart Recoverg were people that had a resentment towards AA, NA and/or God.
That being said, one of the methods used by Smart Recoverr is CBT, which I used with AA and that worked for me.
Iām curious to know where you got these stats.
No I have never heard of it. Iām a true believer in AA and attending meetings.. Virtual meetings never worked for me in the beginning but after 3 years of sobriety I do visit virtual sites and I share my experience strength and hope with others new to recovery
I have not, but have heard about it. People tell me itās less focused on the higher power aspect than AA, which I think would be more beneficial for me. Is this true?
Thatās right. Thatās what attracted me initially. The program doesnāt require a spiritual component or higher power, but doesnāt discourage it if thatās helpful to the individual.
Recovery isn't a one size fits all program, and I firmly believe sticking to 1 program with our exploring others sets you up for failure.
There is a lot wrong with AA. It's like the Catholic church... Set in ignorant ways with a complete inability to be open minded. There's a reason more than 90% fail.
Smart Recovery brings a lot of science, data, and skills that are necessary for your recovery. It replaced the higher power with a value driven approach which is basically the same. Smart believes in having values because that's what good human have. It takes away having to say you're a good person because you believe that a female human, who never had relations, had a child who later died, and then came back to life -- which to me is akin to believing in Santa.
Good luck with your recovery! Road to welbriety has some good content as well. Don't be afraid to be selfish and do what you need for your recovery.
I just did my second meeting today! I love it!
Iām a SMART Recovery facilitator and I find it very helpful. I just found it recently after 10 years of sobriety in AA and I have to say I like it. Take what you want and leave the rest. I think there is more ways to sobriety than just AA/NA. SMART recovery is a full of very helpful tools.
