I take trazadone. 50 mg. Fall asleep quickly. Stay asleep. When I drank I had a very erratic sleep pattern.
Hydroxyzine is an anti histamine with a side effect of drowsiness
You seem to be letting your addiction give you permission to relapse. An observation
Google sleep hygiene...maybe that'll help some.
Remember. DRINKING is a symptom and not the problem. Face the things incorrectly and you will make it. Youpeal the layers of the onion. Get the help you need. TRUST THE PROCESS. AND YOU WILL MAKE IT
We alcoholics don’t need an excuse to drink.
I suggest you do some step work with your sponsor. Serenity comes from the steps.
That said, exercise is helpful. Stay away from coffee after 12 noon. If you are physically exhausted you will sleep.
Try this sleep aid called calm or get some sleep med for a bit not long tho and y can’t u sleep
U need to figure out why u can’t sleep first then go from there
Lavender chamomile iced tea and a shower works for me. I also turn phone off 1 hour before bed and drink no caffeine after noon. Take care
I've found sleeping in sobriety to be a challenge. I had to adjust my expectations on sleep as I'm actually sleeping now and not passing out. Keeping a structured bed time and wake time has helped some. Upping my exercise has helped too. I also utilize meditation to help settle the over active mind before bed. Cutting out blue light a few hours before bed helps so does limiting my caffeine after lunch. Even with all of this insomnia still happens. When I think about a drink during insomnia I have to remind myself it will just make the cycle worse. Alcohol will just make the next time I try to sleep that much harder due to the rebound effects on my nervous system.
I'm not sure if you found anything useful yet but I just came across one on YouTube that I like so far.... This is the link to it
Let me know how you feel about it
Not being able to sleep is awful, I struggled too! Trazadone helped me in early recovery, I took it every night and slept. Eventually I tapered off of it and now I only take 10mg of melatonin. Lots of things to try besides drinking! That will only prolong your problem and continue to make sleeping difficult without it. Stay strong
I agree with this statement.
Craig, it seems you have never struggled with severe insomnia and what a gift that is for you.
Thanks for this! Unfortunately trazadone doesn’t work for me.
I will check this out asap, thank you!!
Yup, I went through this exact thought process! I do all of these things, too, and when I hit 48 hours of no sleep despite all of that, it makes my brain a super hostile place. Didn’t drink over it though!
I’m on sleep meds and do all of the standard sleep hygiene routines. I’ll check out Calm!
Thanks for this. I’m well past googling sleep hygiene - did that a decade ago and it’s a part of my daily practice. I’m on sleep meds. Even then, sometimes my body refuses to actually go to sleep for 48+ hours.
I was put on trazodone in in patient and it actually kept me awake longer 🥲
