I was just starting to read a post about Recovery

Totally understand your point as well! I guess I’m thinking more about the actual experience at a meeting rather than the language choice in the big book. Also, people’s sensitivity to religious parts of AA are going to be vastly different based on their beliefs. Sorta like parents can be desensitized to the their kiddo’s noise level…if you’re used to it, it’s not so noticeable. If you’re not, it really stands out. I appreciate the respectful dialogue, Matt! Bottom line to me is that whatever takes is exactly what that person needs! Have a great day :relaxed:

Only what I’ve seen on tv, resentment is towards the shitty coffee and tobacco. This place does not actually exist in my rural community. That’s why I’m here online.

Yes, I believe them all

It was taken down.

Not mine, it was someone else’s and it’s gone now.

I'd there is such thing as an overshare, I've yet to see it. Crazy the post is already locked. Maybe try messaging him, I know him to be a very personable guy. That is really disheartening that some are turned away by what they consider religious undertones. There IS definitely a difference between spirituality and religion yet still, this troubles me, that some feel like they don't get maybe the help they desire as a result of how they read the program.

We had an atheist in my AA meeting today who was very outspoken about the matter. At the end we closes with the Lord's prayer and he joined the circle and joined hands and just didn't recite the prayer. I was surprised by this. For him, not reciting works.

I get why some feel they just can't attend or perhaps even feel unwelcome. I've never seen someone treated any different for their beliefs, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I DO wish there was more readily available help and suport groups globally, for the atheist and the agnostic.

Yeah - that’s totally cool and as it should be. Anyone intolerant of that has a lot to think about - thanks for sharing

“spiritual, NOT-religious, program”. Although the literature uses the word God, by no means is that attached to any specifics. In Narcotics Anonymous, we choose a higher power that works for us as individuals. Some are agnostic, some are Christian’s, Catholics, atheists, I’ve even seen Satanists in meetings… To each their own. If it’s keeping you clean and improving your behavior, then…. :man_shrugging:t3:
