Ask your father to attend Nar-Anon if not available Al-Anon and pose that subject there before giving you advice on the subject again. Most normal people are unable to understand addiction without help themselves. Family based drug counseling can help as well. Studies have shown that family issues are often a large factor in addiction.
Addiction cause physical cravings and a mental obsession that willpower can not over come. After you detox and aren't physically addicted then you have to treat the mental obsession. That's where you will need help.
I suggest going to meetings and talking to others that have gone through the same things as you. Good luck on your journey.
Oh, he won't. I already know.
I have both as well along with a couple more things as well
What do u mean by that?
Right? I'm not against him but I don't believe in every little thing people or the Bible says.
But have you asked? Sometimes people will surprise you. And if he won’t, it may be time to walk away. Cutting toxic relationships out of your life is a part of recovery. It suck’s sometimes but is necessary.
I'm already lacking chemicals cuz of my disorder. Things that's happened in my life didn't help. Nor did my dumb choice to try this
. I've got sober for almost 5 months. Im going to mental health they put me on meds one to help me sleep stablize my appetite mood swings and stuff like that the morning one is supposed to give me energy a little and supposed to stop the cravings.i just started them on the 14th, the meds. My life wasn't the worst but definitely could have been better. I didn't deserve what happened around 13 years old. I shouldn't have had to grow up fast even before that. I'm also sick of people telling me oh u love rent free, why u stressing ur only 23 what's the worst u been through, you have no reason to feel that way or get told it's cuz I want to feel this way and ik making excuses about not getting me a job or wanting to get out of my dad's house.
Definitely does
The "Bible" has some good advice. Don't bang your friend's wife. Don't kill people. Don't steal. Things that we can all appreciate. But as far as all that other hoo ha, "he loves you and will help you etc, that's very arguable. We gotta stick to what works. A strong support system. If your family ain't doing it for you, hit up meetings. The power of the group is aforce bigger than yourself that you can actually see and feel.
It's only a choice in the beginning. Addiction is a progressive illness.
No one is perfect. I am sure he has his faults that he doesn't like about himself but continues to do. Sometimes our actions become a part of who we are and it takes a lot of extra effort to change something that has become "normal" or a "habit." Maybe he eats unhealthy knowing he shouldn't or spends money on unnecessary things or judges others. There are many things that can become an addiction besides an actual chemical addiction. Why can't other just quit anything that they know they shouldn't do when they know it's wrong. Do they just not care? Do they just decide to do it anyway no matter who they hurt? The answer is yes, because it's part of who they are and they don't have the power or desire to change themselves. But they expect you to change for them. Don't do it for him do it for yourself!!! You are stronger than he is because you are trying to change yourself for the better instead of pointing out his "socially acceptable" faults and asking him to change for you. Sorry! Rant over! My dad is a preacher so I've struggled with this my whole life. I hope you get whatever it is you are after for yourself. Don't worry about what the people that are judging you say they aren't perfect either. Do it for YOU! It will be worth it.
Once addicted I'm not sure does it matter. On the surface substance addiction is a choice. If you don't pick up you can't get addicted where as eating disorders and se x addiction the substance is internally produced by your brain and can be tougher to overcome. Again I'm not sure it matters if you're addicted you need help. It is tough to get sober on your own
All "normies" wonder what the heck our problem is. Why not just stop or cut back? They see it as a moral weakness.
Yes, we choose to pick up but after that it's all about the disease and the compulsion. The trick is getting to a place where picking up is no longer attractive. I got there and you will too.
But only difference, i do want to change. It won't be in the blink of an eye like him & everyone else wants
Right? It's like anywhere else i won't crave it as bad.
I ALWAYS tell people this but somehow i still end up being wrong.
I've said i am getting help already. Its a choice to pick things up but some battle to put it down tho its tearing them apart.
You can't control what they think. Remember that they are broken people too. Keep doing the right thing. Most of them come around but even if they don't you'll be healthy and happy.
I answered the question honestly. I didn't say you weren't getting help. There are too many underlying factors to addiction. I did say it's tough to get sober alone. That said I will talk and try to help anyone get sober.
