Find a local group it helps a lot.
Because itâs hard to admit to yourself honestly that youâre powerless and harder to do it in front of others but itâs a very important thing you have to do for yourself before you can really start to get better. Once you do that youâll begin finding and feeling the strength you need for what lien s ahead. The sooner you give up and realize youâre powerless the sooner you can get off the battlefield
Yes I'm clean without following a specific program. I do things to keep my mind right, but I'm not into a 12 step program. Honestly I think the most important thing is finding a community of people who aren't using. For those who says it's impossible without 12 steps I say there's as many different ways to get sober as there are addicts. 12 steps is not the only way find what works for you. I'm here if you'd like to talk more about it, and good luck!
I'm staying clean without a program I not a big fan of 12 steps myself. What's your D.O.C. if you don't mind me asking?
I canât argue that warren however I think everyone should give it an honest try. I was too scared to when I first quit and relapsed as I approached a year. After months of using again I was fed up and finally realized that I truly was powerless. I decided to check myself into rehab and I just graduated last Thursday. Iâm attending my first NA meeting outside of treatment tomorrow. I did ok on my own the first time but this time Iâm taking advantage of the help and support both NA and AA offer to us. At least try it and if you arenât feeling it try once more because you owe that chance of it working for you to yourself and everyone that loves you. Best wishes to you and all of us that struggle
Aa 34 years 90&90 meetings.it works if we work it.

I did it without AA, but I was pretty traumatized by my rock bottom and it shocked me into going straight. Iâve seen friends struggle with rehab or smart, so I donât believe thereâs a one size fits all solution. If one path doesnât work, try another.
That is really it, isnât it? âIf one path doesnât work, try anotherâ. Thereâs more than one path and theyâve worked for different people. AA may have the most success stories but itâs also the one thatâs been around the longest. I know that doing it on my own hasnât worked for me, so itâs time for a different path
Hey well ! I went 6 mo once& fresh out of rehab said, no promises (mistake!) A good book 4u is âAddictive Drinkingââ indeed AA not for everyone. I mean to fight it out w support groups, yoga herbal teas etc. wish you all the (? Luck)
You can do it! I believe in you.
I donât go to AA but I do go to Celebrate Recovery. Celebrate recovery is the Christian version of AA it is a 12 step program that has 8 principles based on the beatitudes in the sermon on the mount. I enjoy it and I can relate better to it since it is biblical.
One of the hardest things I have ever done was ask for help and it was in a room of AA my other plans and ideas came to nothing I was embarrassed to talk to anyone about how I was really feeling AA changed that as I started to go to meetings and listen for the similarities I knew I could really open up and not feel embarrassed if your not comfortable going to live meets try a few online
I got sober in 2009-2012. I didnât know about AA or work a program. I did have a blackout and almost lost my family because of it. I quit for them but not for me. After almost three years of sobriety I begin to believe I can drink like a gentleman because I now had three years sober. I was better. Well it started off great. Drank like an adult. Then it got worse and worse then alcohol wasnât enough to satisfy my emotions so I thought meth would be a good choice. Did that for about 1 year off and on. Mostly weekends which then turned into weekdays. Went to sanatorium for five days. Got cleaned up. Didnât stop drinking, and still no program. Then relapsed on meth again thinking I can do it better then the last time. This time I lost my wife and Iâm out of my home. I found help via hospital, inpatient treatment facility and AA, NA and Life ring. I have 622 days clean and sober. I quit tobacco and very limited use of caffeine. AA has what we all need. Spiritual awakening! Then once you get that blessing you can now give it to someone else who still suffers!
You can work the steps alone but in the end you will need another alcoholic to help keep you sober! Period! Iâve meet a few people who had 25 years sober with no AA or spirituality and fell hard after drinking again. Our disease is real! Donât tread lightly. However itâs your program work it how you want but if you want what we have and are willing to do anything to get it, pick up that big book and read your story!
Thank you
I'm doing it on my own but seeing a therapist. Best of luck on your journey
Hello, I have been in and out of AA for decades. I never could stay sober. Picked up more white chips than I could keep track of. Now it's been over five years sober. I finally found a sponsor I like (I have been through dozens). I've tried all kinds of ways to stay sober. For me, AA was what I wanted. I believe I was just not ready to stop drinking. When I stopped, I was ready and done with alcohol. AA and sponsor has kept me sober now.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Youâve tried sobriety without the program, why not give AA a shot. Only you can determine how bad you want sobriety or need the program.
