I agree with most of that. I am currently in AA and have been for 8 months now. I embrace the friendship but I absolutely reject all forms of the religious aspects of it. Works for some people, not me.
Agree!
I agree and I’m going on four and a half years sober. I believe in the WW method; whatever works
Yup and follow your path, being careful not to judge another’s path. Keep it up!
Whatever works for you love. It’s a program of suggestion. For me spirituality works, religion doesn’t or at least not the classical idea of it, and I’m almost 11 years in of what I consider a happy, healthy sober - low anxiety, no bouts of depression anymore. When I stopped debating and started doing what I found to work by looking at other people who were happy and healthy in sobriety, life started improving dramatically over the years, so I can only share from my experience. Other people will have theirs and amen to all the paths that deliver the good results.
I’ve been very active in AA for many years and I’ve seen many forms of sobriety pass through. The best quality of sobriety I’ve witnessed and experienced myself is AA sobriety that does not judge any other path and rather live by example in love and tolerance. That’s a high order but seems to deliver the best results both for an individual and as a form of service. That’s just my experience, other people will have their own. Glad you have found yours!
I whole heartedly agree with Vaida Blue’s two posts above. Sums up in a few short sentences what I believe. Well said
Just to be clear, I said/meant that the fellowship of AA is working for me. The religious aspects of it does not, so I don't worry about it. I simply put myself out to people who want to get sober without god concepts. It's not a debate, I appreciate your suggestion to not debate (and just go along with what everyone else is doing because it's working for them) but that wouldnt be true to myself, basically living a lie, ya know?
It was not making any suggestions to you, I was talking about my experience. Whatever works for you to keep you sober, happy, joyous, and free and hopefully help others to get there too that’s all that matters.
