New to this app! Trying to find some sober friends

8 months here. Biggest thing I deal with is boredom.

I was sober for 5 years. And then, I blew it big time and went on a ā€œbender!ā€ I’m 3 months sober now. Why I did the slip? Its the Addictive mind. I am bearing the consequences of my lapse; they are multiple and somewhat painful. I guess I’m trying to rebuild my social circle too. Dave.

Same here why is getting high an escape from boredom??

And yes, the loneliness sucks but I have come to realize that for the past 10 or so years, I was lonely in rooms filled with other lonely drunks and alcoholics. The booze took a lot away from my social skills and interactions. Long ago, I would go out to meet new people and spend time with friends. You know…socialize.

Sometime ago, that switched and I just went out to get drunk and talk with anybody who’d go drink for drink with me. We would bond for a few hours, get shitty and then go our separate ways. I can’t even comprehend how many so called friends I’ve had in the past 20 years. None of them remain in my life. Its sad, but so was the relationship I had with booze. Slowly but surely trying to build friendships with real people again. Its hard, especially living in a college town at 50+.

Hi! I have 7 years by the grace of my higher power and the power of the rooms . Thanks AA!! Loneliness is hard , I just went thru a horrible divorce and I’ve been alone a lot . I don’t have many sober friends… a few but not many . Most of my friends drink , but not like me :face_vomiting: I don’t miss it, my friends that do drink have a lot of respect for me and getting sober so it’s nice we are able to still be friends and remain extremely close . They don’t drink like us , or I wouldn’t associate with them vice versa . This thing we do is NOT easy ….

Me too bro

Find a hobby you love and learn as much as you can about it and do it as often as you possibly can . That helps boredom, at least for me it does
