Yes – my sponsor sponsors some women out of state as well. When so many meetings went online via zoom a lot of men and women sponsor people they met on zoom from what I understand. The zoom meetings just really saved me as my husband was diagnosed with leukemia so I couldn’t go to in person meetings anyway when Covid came around.

I’m in Al Anon so my experience is with my Al Anon sponsor but I felt having a virtual sponsor was helpful for me temporarily. But I have felt a lot more benefit from someone I could meet with in person and see at a meeting.

There’s also an app called discord. Friends of AA. They have text meetings, chat room and online sponsors.

Thanks Allie! I’m in AA too. I kind of want to be selfish about it and Would like to have my main person be via phone or videos and have an in person sponsor to go to when in a “pinch” or needing that face to face contact.

My experience with sponsoring online has been wonderful. I sponsor both men and women who want to stop drinking or drugging and who are willing to go to any lengths to get sobriety through the AA program.

Pros:
Helping another Alcoholic achieve sobriety.
Witnessing another experience a spiritual awakening.
Staying sober ourselves due to giving away what was freely given to us.

Cons:
Different time zones
Not in person meetings- which is a more spiritual experience when doing the fifth step.

I’m looking for a sponsor so that I can start this new way of life. I’m struggling with staying clean. I have to get clean at a place where I e always used and I don’t know how to stop using here it’s like it’s haunting me and people they watch me to see if I change daily
