Congratulations.. keep working on your recovery
Thank you all for your supportive replies. I’m very blessed to be where I am in my recovery. While I try and always keep it positive, it hasn’t always been easy. I’m still working thru some old issues that continue to hold me back from being free. Recovery has been about continuing to grow and learn ODAAT. My old thinking is still there. My old self is continuously pulling my thoughts in the wrong direction. The daily program of AA helps me be aware of it, and gives me a choice to let it go and think differently. I guess that’s the spiritual experience they talk about. I just wish the old me would go away! In my experience, it takes a lot of work to stay sober. It’s definitely worth it, but it is a daily endeavor
Also, I wanted to add this one last comment. I said my family is supportive, but that doesn’t mean they understand. There’s a huge difference. Only you guys understand. My wife still doesn’t get why I can’t drink in moderation. While my recovery anniversary is celebrated, it also triggers back some very painful feelings for her. It’s wonderful and beautiful, but I don’t want to mislead anyone that it’s all rainbows and unicorns. Relationships are not easy. Raising and learning to let go of young adult kids is very challenging. I couldn’t do any of this without help. It all starts with working my AA program, and then getting a lot of outside help. It’s ODAAT my brothers and sisters
Congratulations Lee
