I agree Dave. Alcoholism is no joke. It takes too many people and it doesn’t discriminate. Unfortunately alcohol has been romanticized. But the consequences are fatal for some. And for that reason alone I’ll never touch the stuff again. We only have one life to live… may as well make the best of it!
Adam, I have years of experience with this fatal disease. Trust me when I tell you that the best thing for you right now is to start getting to AA meetings. It sounds to me like you have a lot of determination to never drink again. Many people have said that in the past only to have gone back out again and again and again.
If you really want to never, ever drink again, Go to meetings and get a sponsor to take you through the steps.
One day at a time
I'm in Fort Lauderdale, you aren't far so could def hit some of the meetings I can suggest. Sunday night at 6pm is Broward Young People's AA it is fire and we all go out to eat afterward. Really amazing group of people. The noon at Delray Central House is amazing, and there are a couple at Sunshine Cathedral and in Deerfield on the beach. You got this.
Also
This a great app from AA that can be found on both platforms.
Addiction is an enthusiastic voice in your head telling you to burn it all down and kind of wanting to for no reason really known. Connection is the opposite of addiction. Stay connected with other alcoholics that are doing the work to not stay in the grips of addiction. AA helps me with staying connected and finding ways to connect with a power greater than myself. Wishing you a beautiful recovery ❤️🩹
