Also: my doc has had me try a few non-stimulant ADHD medications. One of them is Stratera which made me feel crappy but seems to work for a lot of people. The other one is actually a blood pressure medication called Tenex (guanfacine in generic) that works on a lot of the impulsivity symptoms of ADHD (symptoms that probably helped me drink too much, too). I'm on that one now and it's kind of amazing. My mind feels quieter, I sleep better, and I feel less jumpy. It's also much easier to get non-stimulants prescribed (since they're not habit forming) so if it's of interest to you, your primary care doc might be able to help.
