You just have to reach out for help, go to an aa/na meeting that’s a start
One program I haven't seen mentioned here is Recovery Dharma. It's based upon Buddhist teachings and principles, if that's more your speed. I, like yourself, am an atheist. I like the Buddhist principles, but the spiritual part is lost on me.
Even if none of the programs people have mentioned here appeal to you, you can even just look up group therapy with a focus on substance abuse.
This app/community is a good thing for support, but I don't know if it would've been enough for me on its own.
I got my sobriety jump started by going to rehab. I learned a lot in the groups and classes, but I also gained a sense of community through the friends I made there. 30 days without the temptation of drink or drugs didn't hurt either.
I also started on medication prescribed by a psychiatrist that also lessened the need to self-medicate with alcohol.
Ultimately, as you will hear many people say, your recovery is your own. You have to be accountable to yourself, but in the beginning, it can't hurt to be accountable to others. I'm at a point where I am in control of my recovery, but having a support structure will always be necessary and important.
Soberiestas - I’ve also read Quit Like a Woman & Calling time on Wine O Clock.. I listened to audio versions
Ohh! I’m am totally gonna check out recovery dharma
Search for it on Amazon. The book is like $6-7. I can't find any meetings near me, but maybe you can find some in your area. Good luck, my man!
Listen to the book, This Naked Mind by Annie Grace
I just recommended that on another post! Right on!
You have made the first step by asking the question. Now the second step, in my opinion, is to make the decision that “today, I will not drink”. Find a meeting or people that can help you. You can do this. One day at a time.
Take the leap! Look for support through this app and look up meetings near you.
Going sober - this is my 16th day without a drink - has made me feel so many things that it's a bit overwhelming but staying focused on choosing me each day over alcohol is the key thing. Sending you strength to just go for it.
