What boundaries do y'all make for yourselves regarding your sobriety

That's God telling you that you are your own greater power my friend. What a great feeling that is.

I’m promised through the program the ability to go anywhere a free man goes. So really I just check my motives before I go, make sure I’m on solid ground. I’ve gone to bars, clubs, festivals in sobriety and so long as spiritually I’m good I’ve yet to have any real fear. In the beginning it was about separating myself from those environments, now it’s moreso if there’s a good reason for me being there or not. A boundary I do have is I will not be a sounding board for peoples misery. If you want to problem solve, vent, that’s fine. But if it’s the same thing over and over with no change, I won’t be a part of that misery. I can only be so useful in scenarios like that, and I won’t place myself in a position to be hurt by enabling a lack of change in someone.

You can go anywhere you want just as long as you're not going to a bar to have a good time even though you won't be drinking. If you have to go to some place where they serve alcohol, just make sure that you have a legitimate reason for being there; like maybe a company luncheon. If you hang around a barbershop long enough you're going to get a haircut.

This is very well said and I love that boundary! So true.

I work in water treatment and we work 12 hour shifts. There is a 7am-7pm shift and a 7pm-7am one. I worked the night shift for 2 years and the isolation of it and it messing with my chemical balance from staying up all night was one of the main things that lead to my relapse after 4 years of sobriety. I told my boss after I went to treatment that I can no longer work nights and if they try to rotate me to nights I will go to a different department or find another place of employment. He respects it and see I'm serious because I have a VERY solid and secure career there and for me to say that speaks volumes.

Really proud of you for standing up for yourself and doing that. That's awesome you saw what was causing harm and fixed it.

I won't come and see you face to face after a relapse, until you have 24hrs of sobriety under your belt. I will help you get treatment once. Everybody gets one.

Anyone who tries to pressure me to use gets cut off indefinitely.

Same. In the past, the ones who pressured me were always red flags and were not good friends.
