What’s The best recovery advice you’ve ever received?

Great post

Once I watched a YT video, wish I could credit it, but the guy was able to be sober by telling himself that “it’s not an option”.
He said, “Just don’t make using an option”. Don’t ask yourself “should I?”.
Don’t contact people who you know might prompt you. Don’t pretend you weren’t hoping it would happen by ‘accident’.

It sounds stupid until you’re able to do it, and then it becomes genius. So the thoughts need to be shutdown immediately with a loud “no, its NOT an option”.

Then go distract yourself with something.. the app called Sobriety Counter has a game in it called Beat Urges.. and it helps occupy the mind for a bit.

One of the things that has helped me is the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. The key for me has been showing up. If your goal is to walk everyday then get suited up to go for a walk everyday, walk outside, and if you feel not up to it then don’t do it, but more than likely once you’ve done the showing up you end up doing it. This is how I’ve ironed in most of my routines. Walking would be a great one to add.

Love that case and coin. Really cool.

Thanks Jeff!

Do it for yourself, nobody else. Gotta love yourself, trust yourself, and be yourself. Once you accomplish that your horizons will open up.
