Years of heavy alcoholism has left me so uncomfortable in my own sober skin. Does this feeling ever start to dissipate?

Those feelings are completely normal and justified if you can maybe try a walk with meditation and just getting out of your head going to the store and trying a new recipe, or coffee with a friend .... I know it doesn't feel fantastic some points but you're doing it

You are entering the time period where PAWS (post acute withdrawal syndrome) begins for many of us.
It can include emotional rollercoaster type feelings that can surge either way and seemingly come from nowhere. It can also affect energy levels and mood in similar surging ways.
The good news is that it's caused by our brains beginning to heal and learning new neuro-pathways, but the bad news is that it can be rough and could happen at any time between a year to 2 1/2 years sober.
