12 years is a long time

That’s how long I spent drinking. Age 20 to 32. Daily for 11 of those years, with the longest break being 10 consecutive days in 2020.

That is such an inconceivably long time to spend getting drunk every day. It’s a miracle I’m not dead.

Some days it really just hits me how long I spent drunk.

Just know that you never have to go back to that lifestyle again. One of the biggest blessings of recovery.

My life has done a complete 180 since I got out of the hospital.

Right there with you bud. I got sober at 46. I didn’t start drinking heavy until I was 32. It snuck up on me and buffaloed me hard. I wasted so many years of my kids growing up, wrecked jobs, relationships, finances… now I will do everything in my power to never go back to that. And make it up to the ones I almost lost because of the demon I was to afraid to beat back.

It’s good that you have a reason in your life to stay sober! Still searching for mine, 9 months in

One reason, your life has turned around, and that’s not nothing. Waking up with a clear head is another. Small reasons can stack up and become big reasons.

The reason is you my man! You need to be here for yourself first. You need to be sober for yourself. The rest of the stuff will fall into line.
