Had a pretty tough day today, came really really close to getting something to take. I jist wish that wasnt immediately where my brain goes. Anybody have any tips to help snap out of that thinking faster when i get a bad wave of the thoughts? Thank you all in advance we are in the together. I did make it through without anything today

Andrew, thanks for sharing. When my urges happen, I always play it out all the way in my head. All the way to the ugly bitter end. The miserable hangover, the self loathing, hopelessness, disspare and then I’m grateful to be sober. No matter how bad it is at the moment, at least I’m not hungover.
This has helped me countless times. 12 steps and in person meetings really help too. 16+ years sober. I’m here if you want to talk

I take a walk and before I leave I write the name of the person or thing that triggered me and I walk and stomp it off the bottom of my shoes. It works and I lost 60 pounds

The thoughts :thought_balloon: still come. I even have dreamt about drinking, but I don’t actually do it. I have become accustomed to substituting beverages if I have a thought of drinking. What’s a favorite candy or gum you could choose? It really helps me. I also pray and take some deep breaths and then change the channel in my mind. Turn on some music, go to the library, or walk outside.
