16 days free of alcohol!!! Grabbed a 6 pack of NA beer at the grocery tonight, husband quit also but it never “controlled” him like it did me. He said what’s the point of that you might as well get ya the regular stuff. Kind of hit me in the feels. The point is not being drunk. Not having a fogged brain every night, and a hangover every morning. What was casual drinking on the weekends turned to every night. A 6 pack turned to a 12 pack a night. Nursing student, and mom life had me longing for a drink every night. I genuinely enjoy the taste of beer. 16 days cold turkey I don’t see anything wrong with a 6 pack of NA beer.
Nope not touching it. lol
Which NA beer did you get?
Congrats on Day 16.
You must be careful. Gives you a false comfort zone.
Congrats.
I cut my ties with alcohol. I don’t need substitute alcohol. I don’t want to be reminded of what I used to destroy my life.
For people like me, a full and clean break is the best way.
Thank you! I got Lagunitas
Everyone is different. My life was no where near destroyed or ruined, this was a decision I made for myself to be better, more clear minded, and in control. For me, cutting back wasn’t an option. Addictive personality. It was more of the fact of drinking every night, whether that be 2 beers or 12… we all have our own stories and I am confident in the fact that a NA beer isn’t going to send me to the store for real beer … if anything it was the opposite. Drank half, poured the rest out.
Good answer Amanda. Each walk in recovery/sobriety is different for everyone.
If something is a trigger don't do it. If it's not-drink the mocktail, ya know. It's that simple.
In person meetings work for some while virtual is best for others. AA is best for some and Recovery Dharma is best for others.
We do things differently and that's OK.
Keep up the great work Amanda!
Great choice. You chose NA beer over alcohol. You didn't relapse. Give yourself a pat on the back.
I'm glad you chose a NA beer over a real one. If that is a good way to keep the craving down, have at. Be careful though. I think the concern of some of the folks here is that an NA drink can trigger the urge to get a real one. It doesn't do that for all of us, but it can become an issue. Congrats on 16 days.
And that you might not be an alcoholic of my type. I have to destroy everything that loves me. I’m a more guy. More of everything please and now.
My advice is to keep an open mind about alcoholism. Learn how others are affected by it. What tools they use to stay sober. Alcohol may not ruined your life YET, you’re eligible too, but that doesn’t mean it’s not killing your insides. You’re making a wonderful decision for your family and friends and your own health.
Congrats! The NA thing isn’t for me, but I’m glad you’re staying sober.
Doesn’t work for me. But good luck
Totally hear you on the mom life thing and it just getting out of control! I really love the Happy Hour Recovery Podcast Episodes 49 and 130 on this topic.
