I was contemplating doing a virtual meeting, but I feel like this is only going to work for me in-person. Also - my sister and a friend wanted to come, but I really feel like I need to do this alone. Any thoughts on what to expect? My thoughts are - this is going to be a room full of strangers that I can be completely vulnerable in front of…because they understand exactly where I’m at right now. I feel like I’m going to hold back in family/friends are there. Please - I’d love to hear about your first AA meeting experience. I’m so scared and nervous, but I’m determined to get out of this place I’m in.
First off, what kind of meeting is it? Lead(speaker) or discussion?
Either way, I'd go alone. It's a you thing, right? If it's a "closed" meeting, then it's preferred that only alcoholics attend. But it's really up to you.
Don't worry, it can be a great place, if you let it be. If that meeting sücks, find another one.
Go alone. You will be welcomed there with open arms. You will hear shared stories of others struggling with addictions and their journey. It is a place where there is no judgement and you can freely open up to discuss your feelings and thoughts. This is truly the setting you need at this time. Just go and I promise you will not regret it.
A 24 hour coin and a big hug are a great way to start your journey.. a lot of "Welcomes" and a lot of "keep coming back"
It says that I can bring someone to support, not closed, but yes…I’m going to go with an open mind
It's gonna be okay, don't trip on it. Go with no expectations and observe. You don't have to share. You can "choose to listen" if you prefer. Alot of people do that topic meetings. Honestly I wish more people would pass instead of conjuring up shït thatvisnt even on the topic just to talk. But anyway.... haha
Don't trip, just go and see what it's all about.
