1st day here and nursing a hangover. I’ve on and off tried to stop drinking or drinking less. I’ll go 4 or 5 days and think I can just drink one day. That never happens, one day turns into the next 4 or 5 days again. Same cycle weekly. And I cannot moderate, once I start it’s all the way. I’m tired of feeling like trash and ruining my own days and productivity. I need to get my physical & mental health under control.

Get your drinking under control first, meaning not drinking anymore, then the mental health stuff will be a bit easier to sort through. I am currently in therapy and I would've never gotten this far in therapy if I was still drinking.

Are you in any programs right now? I'm guessing no. Maybe look into it?

@taylor134616 I am in weekly therapy. I’m fully aware that it starts with not drinking anymore and mental health is easier to sort out.
It was more of a statement post Vs a struggling post. Thank you for your suggestions.

Ah okay, therapy as in other than drinking? I should have been specific. My therapist would never be able to guide me through addiction etc. I was referring to a program like AA or similar. I wasn't trying to mansplain but the amount of people that come through here everyday that are having a hard time staying sober and who completely write off AA meetings, for many reasons(some reasons I don't even blame them) is constant.

Yes, I was previously involved and have renewed my contacts with a recovery group. AA is not for me but I am familiar. My therapist is also a trained recovery counselor so that does help.

My therapist is a black belt. She will kick your therapist's a$$.

AA works for me. Don’t drink and go to meetings. That’s how to start.

Thanks. AA is not for me. I’ve quit for long periods numerous times. I wasn’t really asking “how” I was just stating where I was. Thank you for the suggestion.

There are other options besides AA. I white knuckled it for 6 months but was miserable until I got in a program with other people. I think that the main point, the fellowship with other addicts.

I’ve heard a lot of people say AA wasn’t for them but continue to struggle. If you are willing to go to any length to get there, then all options should be on the table.

"I've quit numerous times for long periods of time, so I don't need AA".

Hey, we've all said the same thing, right?

That’s absolutely not what I said. I am involved in another recovery group. My point was AA isn’t the only way for everyone. How about let’s take judgment of people and avenues they choose out of this, it’s not helpful or kind.

Why are you victimizing yourself? I said "we", myself included.

How about everyone stop overusing the word "judgement" or "judging". It's ridiculous. Throwing that out there everytime you get triggered by something you don't like to hear. You're not special in any way. We ALL do this. We ALL feel the same, we just articulate differently.

Whatever program you're using, if it's working for you, that's awesome. You had a hangover yesterday, so maybe it's not. That's not judgement, that's plain old arithmetic.

Goddâmn you earthlings are strange.

Hahaha this is hilarious. I never pointed fingers, I spoke for myself. But apparently you are triggered also. I didn’t have a hangover yesterday judgy mcjudgeraon that was 3 days ago. Way to shame people. Please stop commenting and find someone else to bicker with. “You earthlings” as if you’re some kind of higher being SMH

You should see me when I'm drunk/using.. Outer space ...

Hope you’re doing ok :+1:t3:

I understand people who got sober in AA have a single minded way of working it. If it works for them, great! But sometimes they seem to forget it isn’t for everyone, even if they have the best of intentions. In a way I’m glad I went though the first six months without it. It proved I could do it. I needed help learning new ways to live after 30 years and support. AA has given me that.

Yes I totally understand. I have connected with another group after moderation drinking for a while. Then of course that becomes more frequent. I wasn’t being stubborn because I don’t like AA, I just couldn’t connect to it previously. I’m not white knuckling fortunately, I feel awesome. I have about 10 min a day where I want the 6pm glass of wine and then it passes if I distract myself. Focusing on being creative, walking my dog, sober sisters podcasts and support group and therapist once a week. Not focusing on my past and being positive about where I can and will go have helped a lot.

Thank you for being understanding and seeing that. I have numerous friends that it absolutely is for them. I don’t judge any path, I want everyone to win. But being snarky because you’re upset that someone isn’t using your suggested way doesn’t make them wrong, it makes you judgmental (Not you) that’s all
