1st Sober Vacation

Hey Y’all! So, I’m taking my 1st weekend trip mini vacation. Leaving tomorrow thru Sunday. I wasn’t worried at all really until this morning. Is this a normal healthy fear or a sign that maybe I should change plans.

Just make sure you have plenty of sober activities to do. Museums etc, whatever you like. Be good to yourself. Be prepared. Get a meeting schedule for the area you're gonna be in ahead of time, just in case you need some grounding. You can do this.

A little cliche but just remember to enjoy yourself.

I remember my first sober vacation. It can feel a little nerve wracking. One of my biggest fears was the fact that I didn't trust myself. I also dreaded the conversation I would have with other folks on vacation. As to why I quit drinking. The only thing I can tell you is to be true to yourself. Remember why you got sober in the first place, and enjoy your vacation. I look back on some vacations where all I did everyday was get trashed. I literally have little to no memories of those trips. This last year sober has been amazing.

Yeah I can understand that. Don't trip on it, do some people watching, realize you don't have to be a drunken fool like the rest of them, no regrets.

Great responses guys! Vacation has been my downfall in my sobriety journey. I thought I was ok cuz I would stop drinking the last day...needless to say that wasn't sustainable . I love the "people watching " suggestion! And remember why you stopped in the 1st place. You got it!! Stay true to you:muscle::pray::facepunch:

I went to a concert in Austin and it was the first time I have ever been sober at such an event. I stressed for nothing. However, it’s good you aren’t being cavalier about it. I agree with the others; sober activities and sober companions. I think a meeting in Vegas would be cool!! Go ahead and roll the dice! You should be fine if you value your accomplishments. Good luck and bring back money :))

Going to Vegas and surrounding area, there are many great sober activities. Hiking, shopping, just walking around taking pictures, etc. All kinds. You have made it this far because of your desire and resolve to stay sober. Good on you!:hibiscus:

I went to Maine for a weekend for a wedding a few weeks ago. I know its not a good idea in early sobriety, but I introduced the bridge and groom so had to go.
I prayed and meditated on it before going. Met the wedding party at a bar the night before and had a blast drinking seltzers with lime. Went to a meeting the next morning and did some walking around (beautiful sites) before the wedding. Open bar, but no worries. I felt great being completely in the moment with old friends, giving and receiving all of the hugs and not thinking about drinking at all, though drinks were all over as far as the eye could see in every direction.

I felt so good afterwards and had a heck of a good time in the moment.

Keep the faith and really enjoy yourself. Feel great and relieved when its over, but be in the moment and love every second of it.
