1st Visit Home

Heading home to visit my family for the first time sober and I am scared. Scared of all the big emotions I’m going to feel, to be back in my childhood room that never felt safe, and just all of it. I’m scared to see how sick my family still is from a sober and program filled view. I’m not saying I’m healed but I have done so much healing and work on myself these last 10 months. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated. Or just support. :white_heart:

You can do it, just take things slow. Don't push them to much on their drinking, but be firm that you won't join them. If things get to bad...bounce like a rubber ball

Any safe places there you can escape to to potentially clear your head if things get tricky? I always plan an exit strategy if I’m in an environment that I’m unsure of.

Completely understand your apprehension. It’s really fantastic that you have changed. You do get to bring your program with you! If you are familiar with the serenity prayer, start repeating it every hour on the hour. You can’t fix them or the past. This will be a big test for you, but you are up to it. As you said, you have been working hard to heal and change yourself. Keep your expectations reasonable. Your main goal is to stay sober. You can do that. You are a grown woman. You do have the power to make choices for yourself. Take some breaks to get your head back on straight during the weekend. It will get twisted at times, but now you have tools to not get into a knot! Breathe!
