2 days sober (technically) and I had my first ASAP class today. It was really encouraging and I think is just gonna be one of my resources to keep me sober. I will not drink with you all tonight!
Welcome! It is great to hear that you found a resource that works for you. Keep on keeping on!
Congratulations
on two days. That’s HUGE
Congratulations on 2 days!!
Do you mind if I ask what ASAP is?
I am finding great encouragement from this group. It helps to be able to talk to others about my struggles and share my successes. I still wish I didn’t feel so alone in my own family though.
So glad you shared your accomplishment.
Thank you! One day at a time
Alcohol Safety Program. I got a DUI last November and paying my dues.
Oh gotcha! We have what’s called IOP (Intensive Out-patient therapy) here. I’m going because I know I need to. But I’m praying when I go to court it will help my DUI’s
He.ll yeah!!!
Hang in there. I know how shameful and stressful it can be getting a DUI. Just focus on your sobriety first and foremost. Remember, there's no bad situation that alcohol can't make worse!
Amen!!! Thank you Beth
Way to go Beth! I’m also on day 2 and I know how much courage it takes to face reality. Hang in there! I’m dealing with the DUI thing too. It sucks but a wake up call I needed. I’m trying to see it as a blessing in disguise instead of the shameful thing society tries to make out to be.
Thanks Elliot! It's nice to know other people are going through the same thing. We'll all get through it together!
Congratulations!!!
Ahhhh, bartender? Ever think about career changing? Might help some.
I have definitely considered it but I have done several dry months workin behind the bar and the temptation is surprisingly not there. Being clear makes me a better bartender and I enjoy the job more. It's the social situations and the boredom that really triggers me.
Gotcha. I know I sure couldn’t do that and sobriety together. Good luck.
I bartended 4 nights a week in a total dive bar before going to rehab. I cut back since - more because the hours were just throwing my whole new “normal” schedule off than the triggers of the job/environment. I still fill in every now and then and I enjoy it way more. So long as it doesn’t jeopardize your recovery I’d say keep it up!
Congratulations on 2 days. I’m going through the same thing. I decided to change my life 8 months ago and put myself in rehab again then long term, then a reentry apartment. In the process I went to court for my second dwi with in 4 years. Now I’m living a life I could only imagine. And that is because I decided to change everything. Where I lived, my friends, etc. I left everything behind and I started all over again. And it was the best thing ever. So keep up the good work and stay focused
Man that is so encouraging. Congratulations on starting over and living your best life!
Thank you. It wasn’t easy at first trust me. But with the help from this app and zoom meetings because I was in long term I’ve come a long way. And trust me I understand I work in the same industry and I’ve met a number of ppl in recovery that also work in the industry. As long as I go to meetings and hop on here and talk I get through each day sober. Some days are rough but that’s life on life terms and I didn’t turn to drinking or using drugs.
