Talk about doing this on beast mode. I worked behind a bar during early recovery within my first year. What kept up my motivation to not drink was listing my values and seeing how drinking did not line up with any of them (mental health, physical health, financial health, my career, and relationships).

Addiction is giving up everything for ONE THING. Recovery is giving up one thing for EVERYTHING.

Thanks I appreciate it.

Yeah man. Also, am curious does anyone at your job know about you being in recovery? Not saying out yourself for the sake of it but, if it's a supportive workspace and they genuinely care about the well-being of their staff, it would not hurt to consider talking to someone. Depress the pressure cooker and get that sweet relief.

Hey man, I'm a bartender, it helps to reverse the party for me. If I'm the one in control and everyone else around me is getting drunk it makes it easier for me to play it forward. How would I feel tomorrow if I joined in? Also, like someone said above, if you have a supportive work place that's incredibly helpful. My boss and co workers all know about my recovery and respect it fully, it takes a lot of the heat off in my opinion. You got this man

I have told people at work that I’m not drinking. They have been supportive, somewhat, lol. Thank you so much for your words. Just reaching out on here is helping.

First thing comes to mind are “transferable skills”. Unless you’re a major stakeholder in your role, take your skills elsewhere. The other part of me say, “SSFF” which stands for “streaming series fast forward “ because we know how playing it through in our minds helps, but I couldn’t live in a horror movie with a Groundhog Day theme. Lol. May your Higher Power keep you safe and sober!
