I wonder if meetings will help me. Let's just say I worked in an area where I may be likely to know someone. I don't want that. I truly prefer complete privacy. I am a very gregarious person though. Can you explain why meetings help you? I feel I need to open my mind set.

I was sober for four years before. I was doing meeting religiously. I became complacent at the end of that four years and jumped right back into it. I said screw it one night and had a Beer. 2 days later, I’m down in Kensington in Philadelphia coping dope. I recommend meetings because the people there understand what you’re going through. They’ve been in the same situation. Once you get involved in the program, you start networking and make friends very fast. These people will give the shirt of there back to help keep you from going out and doing whatever poison it is that you do. Get a sponsor and work the steps. AA, NA, CA whatever it is can help change your life. You are not alone in this. Please reach out to me if you need anything. I’m still early in recovery but, I’ve done the program before and was successful. Good Luck Angi! Like I said, don’t hesitate to contact me when you get those urges.

I am happy for you. I also envy ppl who are able to withstand. I know that is wrong of me. I am just ready to be completely honest with my feelings. Sobriety looks impossible from my viewpoint. With all I have accomplished, I don't get why this has to be the hardest trek of my life. Fighting with oneself is the worst battle. I am so tired of losing. I don't mean to sound dramatic. It's a true reality.

You gotta get all that stuff out. It will just wear and wear on you. It’s okay to cry and show emotion. Just remember, most of us in this situation are just like you. We’re all the same. When you work your fourth step that’s when you’ll start getting real with yourself. You can do it. Instead of one day at a time, take it one second at a time. Just don’t take that first sip. Also, I don’t know how bad your drinking is either. Have you considered going to treatment? Alcohol withdrawal is very DANGEROUS.

Good for you! Keep it up :+1:t2:

awesome

I have social anxiety so it was rough to walk through the door to a meeting the first time !! But then I was greeted and felt so welcomed! It felt like home !!

I think getting sober is as much of a journey as staying sober. Just keep talking about it

Congrats JJ!! Meetings are where it all begins for me. That’s where I found fellowship, a sponsor, and the 12 steps that set us free. ODAAT :peace_symbol:

Meetings are completely anonymous. What’s said there stays there!
I’m very gregarious and private but at meetings I share every single time. After the meeting I just get up and go home. I miss in person meetings.
Give it a try. You don’t have to share but it is nice to see real people with the same problems. From very successful people to the every day joe!!
Give it a try. You don’t have to share or talk at all.
And keep posting here!!! It’s a WE program!!! Big big hug

Ang ... listen to this ... when I got sober a few years back I decided to go to 90 meetings in 90 days. I was visiting different meetings at different times of the day. At about day 10 or 15 ... I walk into a meeting and standing right there is my NEIGHBOR from across the street. :joy: we never mentioned it to each other outside those meetings. I finished my 90 in 90 and haven't been back. But you would be very surprised by who you see there. And if you do see someone there, so what. They are in the same boat as you. Get sober. Break the mind set. Read Alcohol Explained.
