3rd time I've relapsed on cigarettes, don't know why I can't just stay quit...
They stink. . .
I used menthol cigarettes as a crutch for the CPA exam. Thankfully I managed to quit but even now occasionally a smoke doesn’t sound bad. It’s peace the vast majority of the time I’ve gotten to; not sure if I can permanently shut that part of my brain off.
Yea I’m on 3 months from it now I just got tired spending 9 dollars every 2-3 days on it, I had got tired of always trying get the smell off me , I was tired running to it when I have problem n issues
Thx for the post Shane! I’m very grateful to have celebrated 6 years sober from drugs/alcohol recently.
Nonetheless, after having quit for 3 yrs, I also began smoking cigs again during a row of stressful life events.
I consider your experience as one I can learn from and hope to also use this as a temporary crutch.
Have you ever tried vaping?
Everything is a process. Just do your best to understand yourself and don’t be hard on yourself (that always makes me crack under the pressure). Reach out to people when you need. Proud of you for posting about it on here.
I quit for 3 months when I quit drinking, but when things got rough I went back to smoking. Last year I switched to a vape. It’s a transition, but it doesn’t stink, bother other people, and is a lot cheaper. I would still like to give it up one day but for now it’s still an improvement.
I chewed for years, I’ve gotten as far as quitting Tobacco but use zyn pouches
I quit through vaping. I gradually cut down on nicotine until I was vaping with no nicotine for awhile. Then I stopped that as well. I think it helps because you are still going thru the comforting motions when stressed.
I chain smoked for 16 years and succesfully quit for the second time a little over a month ago. I still want to smoke one nearly every day, but I also thought about drinking nearly every day for weeks after I quit that too. I'm hoping the obsession will eventually end. But you know yourself best. If the extra stress of not smoking will cause you to use/drink. Maybe wait a bit longer into your sobriety before you stop smoking. I was around 14-15 months sober before I quit.
I quit smoking cigs cold Turkey after two packs a day for 15 years after reading Alan Karrs easy way to quit smoking book- it’s like $7 on kindle and saved me a life time of money and health. You have to read this book!!!!
A new form is not a realistic suggestion to stop … in my opinion
It certainly easier to step down
I stopped smoking after 3yrs of sobriety from alcohol and drugs. Every time I had an urge for a cigarette I’d do some form of cardiovascular exercise. Jumping jacks at home. I’d walk fast and faster and then power walk swinging my arms - the thought of how stupid or uncool I must look like came to my mind. Almost immediately (a god thought or sober thought) came to me “would i rather look foolish and feel great or look cool and stink like cigarettes and cause my body so much damage. I chose to look uncool and continuously did my walks working up to being able to run. After 11months I ran my first marathon. Keep on trying. I know it’s hard. Like I said I stopped drinking and drugging but still smoking until I was ready to quit. Just sharing my experience with quitting. Stay strong, stay safe
