4 months and a day today. The longest I’ve ever had. I’ve been living in an Oxford house in Montclair, NJ. This decision was life changing in the best way. For once I feel at home. For the longest time I’ve felt like a black sheep to my family and would isolate. Now, I can go home after a hard days work and feel no need to go into hiding. They say be wary of people, places, and things in recovery. That statement holds for me. Everything positive happening to me now is a result of me making a “scary” decision to move into a house with recovering alcoholics/addicts I don’t know. Sure, it was nerve wrecking at first. Finding a job, barely scraping by financially, trying to figure out how to adapt to a completely new way of living. Everyday has it challenges, but everyday I can see the growth in myself. The other day my roommate said “I can’t believe you’re an alcoholic.” I laughed and said the same to him. We may not notice the changes in us, but it’s there.
