Go to meetings. Go early help set up the hall introduce yourself. Stay late and help break down the hall. Make friends with other s recovering. Get a sponsor. Start working the steps. Go to more meetings.

Not a big fan of AA or NA but thanks for the advice. There a program called C car in my area I’ve found pretty helpful so I’ve been volunteering there the past few days

Congrats Nick! I myself have found AA very helpful! May I ask why you're not a fan? If it's something you don't want to elaborate on that's completely fine. Just curious on your position.

Either way, keep up the progress!

I’ve gone to a lot of meetings so it’s not like it’s about finding the right meeting I feel it’s always the same type of people. Lots of entitlement and judgement I feel I just never meshed with it

But I am aware it does help a lot of people I’m not knocking it it’s just not for me

I understand. Just wondered what your position was on it. There are many other programs out there. Maybe another one would be a better fit?

Wish you the best either way!

No problem man and tired of people in their trying to tell you it’s the only way and knocking you for not wanting to be apart of their little cult

Congratulations Nick! Completely understand your take on AA, as I also felt it wasn’t a fit. You do what works best for you. Just continue being present and remembering why your life is better sober. You’re doing great!

Hey Nick. Congrats on 45 days, am at 42 days. I know how you feel. I like Smart Recovery. Helps me a lot. I do online meetings. Check it out if you’re interested. You gotta do what is the best fit for you. I was clean for seven years and then relapsed. That’s why I’m back. Like I said 42 days in. I remember going to a lot of AA meetings and saying I would never go back to that particular meeting because I didn’t like the vibe. Now there is so many options available in so many ways to recover. Best of luck.

Nick…… Why aren’t you a fan of a 12 step program?
Have you surrendered? WE don’t need family to recover. I didn’t.

Three questions were asked of me when I got sober @ 36 years old.

  1. are you done yet?

2)Have you had enough pain?

  1. Are you willing to go to any lengths to get & stay clean and sober? I answered YES, YES, YES!

WE have a progressive
and fatal disease that only a spiritual solution will recover us from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body. Without a program our disease will lead us to jails, institutions and death.

•I encourage you to attend an AA meeting daily in person for at least 90 days.
•Read the first 164 pages of the Big Book.
•Can’t read well? ….. go to YouTube and follow along with the Joe & Charlie tapes.
•Find a good sponsor who has a God presence in their life. Knows the BB and has quality long term sobriety.
•Thoroughly work ALL 12 steps with your sponsor.

Please give it a try. What do you have to lose? Long term sobriety is available to each of us IF we do the work.
Best wishes :pray::peace_symbol:

Bill…..
Smart recovery???
Sounds like it wasn’t so “smart” for you could have died. :disappointed:
I encourage you to seek out a good home group that discusses the SOLUTION. No drama. No fluff. Attend weekly BB studies.
A Slip is…..
Sobriety. Lost. It’s. Priority.
Prior to your relapse were you…..
•checking yourself daily for fear, anger, resentment and selfishness?
•were you praying & meditating morning, noon and night?
•finally….. were you helping another alcoholic?
That’s steps 10-12. Our daily spiritual growth steps.

Find a good sponsor. Someone who not only talks the talk but walks the walk. Get a home group. Do service work.
Re-work the 12 steps… then help another alcoholic.
Best wishes. :pray::peace_symbol:

I like smart recovery I used to do it nightly at a program I was at I found it pretty useful for sure

Good advice!

Have you ever tried a smart recovery group? You might like those I prefer that over AA, but I like both.

Kim good luck with your sobriety journey. I’m glad you have found AA and it’s working for you. That’s great. It’s not for everyone. Others do get clean and sober without AA or NA. We all need to find what works best for us.
I wish you luck and success Kim.

Hey... been around a minute... thing I learned kept hearing "I don't got another relapse in me..." Well I relapsed few times for long periods twice more then 3 yrs! The last time took me forever to get clean again realized, "I might not make it back this time?! I then knew we have another relapse left in us but may not have another recovery in us!!! Never take your recovery lightly it comes at a very high cost...
