Sober 5 months and a little bit. Alcohol. Annoyed all the time, anxiety, and sadness is my daily routine and I’m sick of it. Want to connect with others that are dealing with similar. Reluctant to head back into AA as I was a huge part of it when I stopped drinking over ten years ago and found it just wasn’t my thing. As with any faith based programs. Any suggestions?
Good luck Charlie. I’m dumbfounded about where to go outside faith based as well.
Thanks man
So no on faith based
AND AA?
There are
Alternatives!
There is SMART recovery here in California they use CBT cognitive behavioral therapy
Hi Charlie, there are three I know of that aren’t faith-based: SMART Recovery, The Luckiest Club, and Recovery Elevator. Check out those.
I’ll look into those thanks
Thanks for the tips, I found some places around me
They have a Refuge Recovery that is best on Buddhist principles. It’s not a religion. It’s more like a new way to think about thinks. Meditation is a part of it. They don’t have a lot of in person meetings where I live but they offer Zoom meetings.
Oh food keep it up! It is sooo worth it
You can believe in any thing.your choice. Aa is around the world .they believe in all kinds of there own faith .You pick.
The faith based groups are always an issue. But in a small town where I live AA is the only option without an hour+ drive. Thankfully our group is pretty loose and allows for an AA/NA discussion. It’s the only game in town, I might not agree with all of it but it helps and the others genuinely care. Sometimes you just have to work with what you have.
