553 days sober, sometimes don’t feel that I have much

553 days sober, sometimes don’t feel that I have much to show for it. I guess it’s called being a dry drunk, meaning I’ve stayed sober but my behavior hasn’t changed. Still in toxic relationships with people. Not so easy to break up that part of my life. I lost my mother and drank even more to numb that pain, lost my dog who was my emotional companion. I couldn’t lose anything more. Giving up alcohol wasn’t really a choice I made on my own but I believe my higher power chose that for me. By the way my higher power I believe to be my mother in heaven. I had a seizure one day that took me to the hospital and that unknowingly would be my last day picking up a drink. But I’m ashamed to say my behavior hasn’t much changed since then. The real work after putting the drink down is even harder than I realized. Recovery is for a life time and working on our inner demons is difficult and scary but the one comfort I have is that I’m not alone in this big world out there. Somewhere hopefully someone is reading this and getting something out of this just like I do when I read all of your stories posted tonight. Goodnight my hardworking, sober angels out there, you matter, keep fighting the fight. :purple_heart:

I appreciate your honesty and it seems like you do have a lot to show for but you’re hard on yourself! You’re not a dry drunk but a person who has come out on the other side of challenges and not given in to the easy choice!:heart::heart: you deserve a trophy!
