65 days sober and was around friends friends drinking this past weekend.. confused on what it made me feel like even though I told them I could care less.
It seems easy just don't let it be to hard on you. It's better to say farewell til it become super easy for you
Were you confused because you weren't sure what you felt? that happens to me all of the time!
Yep! Like I didn’t know if I really wanted it or not. My friends are super supportive of my sobriety and made sure to ask if it was ok and I said yes
The only thing we have to change is everything! This includes our friends that we used to drink with. If you hang around a barbershop long enough sooner or later you're going to get a haircut!
I don't agree with this entirely...
Marissa, congrats on 65 days
. What feeling did you have that's causing the confusion? I would recommend having an honest conversation with yourself or someone outside of your friend circle, preferably a professional to dissect that "feeling". I started with describing that feeling my therapist facilitated the rest associating the feeling with an event or trauma that resonates with those feelings. That may provide clarity. I don't believe you need to change your group of friends or everything in your past life as long as they are supportive of your sobriety. If you can learn to master in understanding how to cope, recognize and manage your feelings through those emotions/feelings that arise, I think you're doing just fine. When in doubt, ask for help. Just a little food for thought ? keep up the hard work
I've just started reading Brene Brown's Atlas of the Heart. Trying to recognize those feelings I've been ignoring for a few decades.
It's okay. You don't have to agree with it. We have the privilege of free choice. But we don't have the privilege of determining a different outcome to what that choice will entail.
I don't even know anybody anymore that I used to drink with. People who have to drink usually hang out with others who have to drink. When I gave up alcohol, a change came over me and I made different choices in my life.
I have a wonderful life. And I'm very particular about who I allow into my life. My friends, like myself do not drink but not all of them are alcoholics either.
Congratulations. Great job identifying that you don’t know how it made you feel instead of forcing something on yourself. Just always be honest to yourself and if it bothers you. If you can keep your mindset and be around friends you are strong and better
