I have this overwhelming feeling of loneliness, like I am missing connection with people. I live in New York City and have been feeling so lonely since quitting drinking again. It’s like, the drink was my constant companion. I am craving connection with people my age, but am nervous to go to in person meetings. I’m not sure what I’m afraid of- to look like the new guy I guess?
We've all felt that way about going to that first meeting it's completely normal! Just gotta get that 20 seconds of courage and walk inside. I know all about that fear as I'm sitting in the car wondering what I'm doing there. Walking inside changed my life bro. It's not for everybody but I definitely recommend giving it a try! What do you have to lose? Keep a open mind and take a chance. It just might change your life. Best of luck.
I’ve been the new girl for the past four days. Went to 9 meetings already and a BBQ because I need to stay sober. Go to the meetings. Do it for you. You will actually help the others too. They love us newbies
What is there to be afraid of? For being "the new guy"? Knock it off. Take your life seriously, and get your a$$ in the meetings. Get in there and tell them youd like to make the coffee once a week.
Some of them have hybrid meetings. Do the online one and get to know some people while doing it virtually. Then when you go in person you’ll already know them
You’re in a great position to have access to so many opportunities and people. Take it.
So I went to the meeting and really hit off with a couple of people. Thank you all for the push!
Excellent. Keep it up. Go to different meetings. Get a couple that you regularly hit, that you're comfortable at and then start to branch out to different meetings, don't get too comfortable.
