7 months sober and couldn’t be happier with my progress. I have had a hard time meeting people that can relate to my struggle and what I’ve been through. Yes, I have met a lot of great people along the way and At meetings but I haven’t met many around my age at all. Most of my good friends still go out to the bars every Friday/Saturday night which means most weekends I’m just hanging by myself at the house. Any suggestions on things to do to get out of the house and meet new people?
Join a club, there are plenty of sober clubs, movies, hiking, camping… take up something like tai chi, or yoga.. now is the time to find new activities you were always too afraid or not sober enough to do! The world is open for you man! Grab it by the horns and hold on for the ride.
Appreciate it Tim! I def could get out there more. I think yoga would be something I could get into. See your a golfer, how’s the game looking?
Try doing normal things with people who you trust to look out for you. Changing up your people could help you feel easier around familiar environments. Maybe you just need support in changing your perspective (seeing with sober eyes/having sober fun) rather than your landscapes.
I’ve joined a few meetup groups, they aren’t all focused on sobriety, but one is a rock climbing group and the other is an outdoor group. The focus is just on getting out of the house and having fun.
Better now… I had to relearn how to golf sober. I was always drunk swinging a club. Took all season last year.
Try googling 'The Phoenix sober active community' to see if there is a chapter in your area. Their events are a great way to find community and do fun things!
Go to more meetings.you will meet people.
It takes time and has to be hard when you get and everyone is going out. Just know you can’t. As far as dating, take your time. Most recommend a year of sobriety first to not get distracted
