78 days and not really thinking much about drinking. Great

78 days and not really thinking much about drinking. Which is good!! But I am having days when I just don’t want to be with people….want to check into my bedroom, close myself off and watch Netflix or sleep….this is very different from my usual which is social, a joiner, fearing missing out, etc…..in fact, I am really “needing” this isolation if that makes sense??trying not to read anything into it, but wondering if this is concerning? Anyone else experienced shifts like this?

Hi Gretchen. Do you have sober lady friends? Normally we are our own worst critic. Everyone has a different way of getting sober. Maybe isolation will work for you. I would suggest finding some sober lady friends and hang with them. Those emotions that we used to hide with alcohol we now have to feel. It sometimes sucks. Glad your on here reaching out. Would like to be your friend and let’s stay in touch.

Isolation is typically not a positive thing. However, always needing to be on the run is not great either. I’m one who’s has an issue finding balance in my life. It’s good to be social, but it’s important to learn how to be alone as well. I’d be cautious about wanting to shut down and avoid your feelings. This is a disease of escaping feelings. Maybe you can put aside a little time each day to talk with a sober friend and meditate just to be sure you’re ok.

Yes!! I’m doing the same thing … I think it also has to do with the country being shut down and not able to do anything for so long too!! I’ve been forcing myself to accomplish at least one thing a day other than work and call one sober friend.. it helps a lot but still feeling this way everyday and can’t seem to shake it …

I don't know if I would call it isolation. To me it sounds like a time of peace and serenity. Nothing wrong with that at all. I love being by myself to read, watch a ball game, walk, exercise, etc. I use to look for isolation when I drank so I could drink the way I wanted. Two very different situations.

I think you should be proud of your accomplishments. I’m normally in out out of being a social butterfly to staying at home and shutting myself off from the world. But when you hit the point of where you feel concerned. Maybe just reach out and speak to someone close to you. For my days mentally that normally helps me.

When you are alone, it’s the one you are with that can be bad company. Just be careful.
