A bit anxious

I’ve been in constant pain for 6 weeks due to sciatica. Saw my orthopedic doctor today and he prescribed Gabapentin. I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about this medication and it makes me anxious but I need this pain to stop.

Anyone have any experience with this medication?

I have no experience with pain medication but have dealt with chronic back pain in the past. Stretching daily and whole body strength training has really helped...follow this physical therapist on Instagram MOVEU. Or Google him. He's awesome

Ditto…Same

When I was on gabapentin, it served its purpose and I had no issues. I was taken off it when I was in early recovery though as that was the policy at the recovery program I went to. I would make sure to talk to your sponsor and see what their input is. My understanding is that if we are in pain, and if we need a medication to help with something like chronic pain, we are able to take something like that as long as we use it exactly as prescribed by the doc.

I was actually prescribed gabapentin in a recovery program for anxiety. Despite being on a hefty dose, I didn't notice any "high" feelings. Obviously, it is tempting for some, but it's much less risky than the alternatives to other pain

Pain itself can be a trigger, so it's important to balance the risks from pain and the risks from prescribed medication.

Have you talked to your doctor about your concerns?
