I was diagnosed (at age 32) with cirrhosis and spend so much of my time with doctors I almost feel like one myself (note: I am absolutely not a doctor).
I began working with an entire hepatology team to get me prepared to go on a transplant list, started taking medications, and most importantly, quit drinking. I had a positive outlook and started doing (when manageable) things I enjoy a lot more: travel, cooking, museums, volunteer work.
That initial diagnosis was in December of 2021, and since then my liver has gotten healthier—healthy enough that a transplant is unlikely and I should be able to live a mostly normal, comfortable life.
Health comes before everything else, and it’s a true gift when hard work pays off.
