I text the below to the guys at my sober living house today after having 9 months of continuous sobriety Friday.
Just want to also say thanks to the Loosid community for the answers to questions I've had and the all encouragement I've received via messages & comments.
And to anyone this is going through it and to you everything seems hopeless: if you truly want to stay sober you will find hope, sanity and a better life. Trust me.
Merry Christmas everyone.
"Merry Christmas again guys.
I forgot to mention I hit 9 months this past Friday and I never would have been able to do it without the support of Oxford House and all the guys that have been in our house both past and present.
Thank all you guys for helping to provide a sane sober living environment.
I know I'm not there during the day often, but me staying busy is a big part of what helps keep me sober and the other part is having a good group of sober hosemates like we currently have.
Things aren't perfect, but they are a lot better now than when I first got out of detox and came to Oxford House in April. I was at rock bottom, had legal issues going on, a GPS monitor and was feeling pretty hopless. I truly didn't think I could recover from my situation, but 9 months later I am in a better place now than I was and, along with my program, Oxford House is a major factor in me being able to maintain sobriety.
And this isn't to lecture because I'm no better than anyone in the house or in general, but I just want to let you guys still early in sobriety jnow, which in reality I am too, that you can maintain it and stay sober if you really do want it. For the longest time I didn't and it resulted in me starting over at 46. I'd hate to see any of you younger guys have to go through that. It f*cking sucks. And I know I'm potentially one drink away from going back.
But again, I just want to thank you all for helping me along in this sober journey. And if anyone ever needs to talk don't hesitate to hit me up here or at the house. I don't have all the answers by far but I'll do my best to keep anyone from going back out.
For some of us our sobriety is potentially a matter of life and death. Hope everyone is having a great Christmas and I'm sorry this was so long.
Have a great night guys."
