A little over two and a half years of sobriety

A little over two and a half years of sobriety and I just bought my first house!!
And I couldn’t have done it without getting sober.
And yet….. since we started the home buying process 2 weeks ago my alcoholic-brain has reared its ugly head and has been RELENTLESSLY telling me all the reasons why having one glass of champagne on closing day would totally be ok and no big deal. Finally snapped out of it and got back on track. Sheesh!

And this is why “Insidious” is still the most fitting definition of alcoholism I’ve ever heard.

Thanks for the update Kate! I remember those early days of sobriety when you were struggling with all the “firsts” of sobriety. Now you’re buying your first house!!!!! Amazing! Well done :raised_hands:

Great for you Kate. Yes, insidious is certainly a defining aspect of alcoholism. I am a short timer 70 days, I assume based on listening to others it is just a part of life for life, like a bad neighbor or an annoying close relative. :slightly_smiling_face:

Dude that’s a great way of putting it! Totally like an annoying relative- not there ALL the time, but definitely has an eye on you

Congrats!

Congratulations on the house AND maintaining your sobriety!! There comes a time in all of our lives when the only thing between us and a drink is our Higher Power. It looks like yours was looking out for you! I use the word insidious on an almost daily basis!! Cunning, baffling, and powerful- without help it is too much for us!!:

Not for all of us. After having gone through the 12 steps of AA, the drink problem has been removed! The only time I think about alcohol is when I'm here, in a meeting, or talking to one of my fellows. Congratulations on 70 days brother!! :pray:t2::muscle:t2::heart:

That’s so f***ing awesome. Give yourself a big hug today, I’m sending you a virtual one🫂
