I have been diagnosed with bipolar, adhd, depression/anxiety, and ocd. Drinking has always “helped” (using that term loosely). The medications I have tried have never helped the way alcohol has with my mood. What are some helpful tips on getting my mind right without alcohol?
Have you considered therapy? learning and understanding my mental mess helped me immensely with the help from my therapist... I also like to journal to keep track of my progress and thoughts/feelings throughout my process
I have and I hated it. They just kept trying to get to a root cause of all my issues and there isn’t one. It is strictly biological for me. I’ve been through several therapists and all of them (for me) have been the same.
Oh shoot... hmm, have you tried any self-help books? I know this community as well as myself have read some really good ones. I first started with unfu*k yourself! by Gary John Bishop. Easy read and very straightforward👌
That definitely sounds like something I would read. I hate the ones about loving your self and fEeLiNgS haha. I’m just not that kind of froofroo person. I’m definitely not knocking it for the ones it helps. I just need some straight forward, no fuckery, life stories with a good ending and some self-help sprinkled throughout.
Absolutely feel the same way! Ha love the no fuckery!
I will gladly take any recommendations you have, then! Thank you so much.
I’m a therapist, and have been and still am in therapy myself. So I get it, it takes finding the right person to match with that can be beneficial for you. I think I may have some books that could help, I’ll take a look
Meditation and yoga help me a ton! Those plus work, meetings, and school keep my mind pretty clear for the most.
That would be amazing. Thank you.
Thank you
If you've never tried them, just give em a shot. I use insight timer for meditation. You can find it on the app store
Meditation
Exercise, particularly outdoors. I’ve never felt worse after exercise than before. It’s not always easy to get motivated, I still struggle with that, but it reliably gets my mind right.
