My experience is similar. I relapsed the first couple of times and first it was for months, but the second was ten years. I didn’t get what I needed the first couple times in AA. Because of my bondage to self I was proud and angry and later realized I had not gotten the spiritual aspect due to intellectual pride. My alcoholic “stinkin’ thinkin’ “ from liking to be right had skewered my on my own petard!
