A person I haven’t seen in a long time like

A person I haven’t seen in a long time like almost a year invited me out for drinks tonight and I was in the car ready to go before I backed out. Wow. It’s amazing how easy it is to just go for it when we know we shouldn’t. My brain had me convinced that it was cool even though I know I want to quit.

Great job!

Man, it’s totally easy to comfortably blow it off until that event is over and your friend is gone and you keep going by yourself. Been there. Done that. Glad you held back. You are a warrior.

About 4 months into recovery I met up with some friends I hadn’t seen since college (roughly 10 years). They knew I’d just got out of rehab. We were walking around town and passed by a bar we used to go to almost every night. Without missing a beat, I was like, How about one for old time’s sake? They looked at me like I was crazy and were like - we thought you quit? I’m so grateful that they checked me in that moment but it definitely showed me early on that this disease will find any nook or cranny to try and drag me back to the insanity that once ruled my life.

Read page 24 of the AA big book. It addresses how I easily forget the pain and misery of drinking. I shouldn’t, it’s catastrophic. But I do. Thank your HP.

Good move!
