A sense of humor is a serious thing

In a great scene from the classic movie, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Butch and Sundance are trapped by bounty hunters at the edge of a cliff. Butch tells Sundance that their only way out is to jump into the flowing river 1000 feet below. Sundance says he'd rather shoot it out. Butch insists that there are hundreds of pursuers and there's no way to shoot it out and win. Sundance finally confesses that he can't swim. Butch breaks into laughter saying, "Heck, the fall will probably kill us." They then jump together hearing them say "Ohhhh SSSSHHHHIIIITT" and we see them playfully being carried to safety by the mighty river.
When you really feel like you're at the edge of your cliff, a good sense of humor can save you from heartache and relapse. When you're worried about whether you made the right decision or when you are fearing the future or ruminating about the past, try to see some humor in your problem. Sometimes it's even a good exercise to speculate as to the worst case scenario (which will probably never happen) and try to make light of it. A good sense of humor is the highest form of acceptance, and acceptance can be the panacea to those menacing perceptions and phantoms that would seek to plague us.

TODO: Take it easy today and lighten those frightening thoughts into something you can laugh at. When stressed, discouraged, confused, or overwhelmed, have faith that your mighty river (your loving Higher Power) has not saved you just to let you drown.

That’s just awesome Michael - so much better than the fart humor - you must have eaten your Wheaties today - one of my top 10 movies - humor is a necessity and living addicts have it - I don’t know how I would have survived without it - my life has been beyond ridiculous and if I had a dollar for every time someone has told me I should write a book . . . Well I’d have a lot of dollars - years ago I was a judge in a chile contest at a nudist colony - don’t spill it! how many people can say that with a straight face - whew - alki-hall

What caught my attention in reading it was the jumping of the cliff scene in the movie. It was the first time I heard the "s" word used in a humorous fashion.

This is an amazing analogy! Making light of situations has become one of the sharpest tools in my box.. It's right alongside of "I just don't care", and "GAF"!..
We gifted alcoholics usually have a tendency of making situations much more difficult and serious than what they really are..
Excellent post my brother!

A thought I had recently: Faith is less like leaping off of a cliff and more like climbing a cliff with you gaining ground a little at a time.

@anthony295720 Very true . We tend to masterbate it in our minds and blow it out of proportion.

I'm not a big advocate in the belief of, but some will even argue that being so mentally overwhelmed without resolve is what originally caused many of us to move in the wrong direction to begin with.. Perhaps true for some, however, I lean more towards a cross between genetics/environment.. But that's a topic for a different time .:rofl::rofl:
But still always a pleasure regardless of the subject matter my friend!
