So last night I was at a little party/game night with some old coworkers. There was a new face there who didn’t know I was sober, even though I mentioned it at least 10 times in group conversation. At one point in the night he offered me to try a sip of a new energy drink that is out, and I accepted. I thought this was friendly and because he heard me mention I’m sober. Nope. One sip, I knew it was alcohol. So I asked and he said yeah I lied, it’s Sangria! I got really red hot mad, made him feel terrible about it, and left the party. I feel alright now, I’m not gonna throw away a whole year and a half just because a man probably had bad intentions and was extremely problematic. But it’s still an very weird thing to process. Could use some love.
To be clear, it was in an energy drink can. I forget the name as I don’t really like energy drinks very much. But it was 1000% in a can that said peach energy on it.
What an ahole! It happens. You’re cool. Just keep moving forward. I typically do the sniff test on drinks, but over the course of time it’s bound to happen. Congrats on your 1.5 years of sobriety
I normally do the sniff test with cups but i guess now I’ll sniff everything. thank you for your words(:
I'm glad you stood up for yourself. Not sure if there's much the police/law can do- if anything I would totally file charges. I would also notify his employer.
I don’t take any open drinks anymore something similar happen to me . It’s freaking crazy what people would do
Wow. What a POS. My thoughts are only violent. You reacted better than I’d have.
Technically, that's a crime. But also probably shouldn't have accepted a sip of a drink somebody, especialy a "new face". That's pretty strange that anyone would do that after knowing you're sober. Sounds dubious.
you showed strength, commitment and dedication to yourself and your sobriety. unfortunately there always seems to be a selfish jackass that thinks it's funny to trick someone.they don't realize that their poor choice could have devastating results for the victim.
Congratulations on standing up for yourself and not using that situation to justify a relapse.
This is nowhere near any sort of relapse! Take heart that this doesn’t effect your sobriety date. I’ve had a couple instances that my Sponcee’s this sort of thing happen. I’ve told them that no relapse happened but that I’d like them to be more aware of what environment and type of people they are associating with. Especially in early sobriety. Totally just a suggestion to think about. Your doing great and long term sobriety is a process of learning experience
Also maybe just note that your brain did have a taste of alcohol and a week or so just be aware and note what the disease is telling lying to you about
What an awful person. I'm so sorry that happened to you. It wasn't your fault though. You didn't drink. It doesnt count. That's awesome you stood up for yourself.. I would be furious, too. I would let your coworkers know so they know what kind of man he is. Its horrible when you try to be a nice person and meet new people and they show themselves to be an untrustworthy P.O.S. Be proud of yourself though. You didn't relapse and you stood up for yourself!
thank you so much everyone. all your comments made me feel so much better about the incident. i really appreciate the community here so much❤️
I’m sorry that happened to you. I personally wouldn’t change my sobriety date and good for showing some restraint. I’d prob be in jail.
I'm sorry that happened Autumn, that guy is obviously a bad tool. Nice job sticking to your guns.
I believe it’s not a slip unless you are intentionally trying to drink. Way to stay strong and leave the party. You did what was best for you!
Someone deceived you. Hang on to your time. It might have been worse, no?
That is assault.
That doesn't count you still have your sobriety and I don't blame you I would have been just as upset as well but a good way to look at it is that hey even though you took that sip accidentally not knowing at least you didn't take a second a third or fourth so that shows how far you have come that's the way to look at it take your year and a half and keep rolling with it
You should be very proud of yourself even though he was an a##hole you did the next right thing some of us may not been that strong there was not intentional on your behalf we have to be aware of our surroundings at all times you just taught me something and I thank you so much for your honesty
keep your head up your doing awsome with your sobriety have a bless day
